Praying with Icons

Within the Eastern tradition of Christianity, the icon, or religious image, has long held a place of honor. Western Christianity, too, has its own traditions of using sacred images for prayer and worship. In this talk, participants will learn what an icon is and how it can be utilized for liturgical, devotional and catechetical uses.

SPEAKER BIO: Sr. Jeana Visel, OSB, is a sister of Monastery Immaculate Conception, Ferdinand, IN. At St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, she is Dean of School of Theology Programs and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Spirituality. Her research and teaching interests include Church art, especially iconography, and monastic studies.
