“…the Christian community welcomes you with great joy. I claim you for Christ our Savior by the sign of the cross….I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Through Baptism, God enables us to participate in the life of Jesus Christ and makes us his children. It is through this sacrament that our sins are forgiven (namely Original Sin), we receive the Holy Spirit and we become members of the People of God, of the Body of Christ, which is the Church. Baptism becomes our commitment to grow in this new life and to strive to acquire spiritual maturity.
As a Catholic Community we most often celebrate this sacrament of new life as parents come and present their infants and children to the waters of life. At Holy Rosary Parish, the baptism of children under the age of 7 years can take place during any weekend Mass or immediately following the 4:30 Saturday Mass, the 9:00 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Sunday Mass. Parents who desire to have an infant/child baptized must attend a Baptism Preparation class (in some cases the Godparents may also be required to attend). Preparation classes are offered in both Spanish and English on a regular basis.
The Baptism of Older Children & Adults
The Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist) are celebrated with older children and adults who seek to become members of the Catholic Church.
The RCIA is the process used to introduce the Catholic faith to any unbaptized adults or children (the age of 7 or greater). The modified version can also be used to welcome baptized Christians of another faith tradition into the Catholic Church. The initial stage of an RCIA process includes a period of Inquiry. Holy Rosary has Inquiry on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 8:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
